Denmark: Conflict between Odense and Blue Water Shipping to be decided in court
Børsen, 24 Jul 2017, online:-
The ongoing conflict between Odense Municipality and Danish shipping company Blue Water Shipping is set to be decided in court. Knut Skov, CEO at Blue Water Shipping, argues that Odense Municipality steals work from the company via its port operator Lindø Port of Odense, and that Blue Water has received support from the Danish Transport Authority (Trafikstyrelsen) in the matter. Skov further says that Odense has since shifted Lindø operations from being a public company to an equity company, a move which he believes only took place so that the municipality could continue to take Blue Water's work. Blue Water has filed a lawsuit against Odense, demanding between DKK 5mn (EUR 672,298.90 USD 784,147.31) and DKK 10mn in reimbursement for the three years in which the municipality has conducted these operations. Meanwhile, Carsten Aa, CEO at Lindø Port of Odense, rebuffs the accusations, stating that the port is obligated by law to take on the tasks which the authority has previously declined to do.
