Netherlands: Foreign trucks transport 5.7% more

Non-Dutch trucks transported 40mn tonnes of goods out of the Netherlands in 2015, an increase of 5.7% year on year. The goods transported by Central and Eastern European (CEE) trucks were up 21%, while the tonnage transported by trucks from other countries fell 4% according to CBS and Eurostat. A total of 42% of cross-border transport was carried out by non-Dutch trucks, up from 32% in 2006. There was also an increasing trend for CEE trucks not to be transporting goods to their homelands; in 2006 59% of their goods were bound for CEE countries but by 2015 this proportion had halved. Amongst other European trucks, 80% of goods were bound for their homeland. Some 75% of goods transported by CEE trucks out of the Netherlands were bound for Germany, Belgium or France.
