Sweden: Intermodal transport possible for consumer goods transports
Svensk Åkeritidning, 30 Sep 2017, online:-
In Sweden, TFK Transport Research Institute (Institutet för transport- och logistikforskning) has presented the results of an investigation of the flow of fast-moving consumer goods. Data concerning a total of 17.5 million tonnes of goods have been analysed. The report concludes that about 25% of goods in this category could be transported by employing environmentally beneficial intermodal transport solutions. This would reduce energy consumption by about 50%. Meanwhile, road truck transports will be required for transporting the majority of fast-moving consumer goods volumes. The theoretical model is based on intermodal transport between the Mälardalen, Gothenburg and Scania regions.
