Sweden: New figures show continued lack of truck drivers
Svensk Åkeritidning, 18 Jul 2017, online:-
A survey conducted by the Swedish Road Transport Employers' Association (Biltrafikens Arbetsgivareförbund) shows that Swedish haulage companies need to recruit about 3,450 truck drivers over the next few months. While the industry has employed over 6,000 new drivers over the past 12 months, several companies report struggles with finding drivers with the right qualifications. Lasse Holm, project manager at the Swedish Vocational Training and Working Environment council (Transportfackens Yrkes & Arbetsmiljönämnd, TYA), comments that companies have expressed concerns over the lack of available education at Swedish high school programmes as well as at vocational schools.
