Baltic: Cargo turnover of ports up 5% in Q1/2017: statistics

The cargo turnover of ports in the Baltic States totalled 39.975mn tons in the first quarter of 2017, which was 1.893mn tons (5%) more than in the same period of 2016, Latvia's Central Statistical Bureau reported. Latvian ports accounted for 46.3%, Lithuanian ports for 31.2%, and Estonian ports for 22.5% of the total. The cargo turnover of Latvian ports reached 18.491mn tons (up 8.7%), followed by Lithuanian ports with 12.472mn tons (up 0.3%) and Estonian ports with 9.012mn tons (up 4.5%). Lithuania's Klaipeda State Seaport was the biggest port with a cargo turnover of 10.303mn tons (up 2.8%), followed by Latvia's Freeport of Riga with 9.307mn tons (up 2.1%) and the Freeport of Ventspils with 7.099mn tons (up 16.7%).
