Germany: Fraunhofer looks at photovoltaic systems for commercial vehicles
Energías Renovables, 05 Apr 2017, Online:-
The Fraunhofer Institute for Solar Energy Systems has evaluated the performance of photovoltaic systems for commercial vehicles, for example in temperature-controlled transportation. A lorry with a photovoltaic roof on its trailer could save 1,900 litres of diesel per year. The institute has found a great deal of potential in this field and is working together with companies from the logistics and automotive sectors to integrate photovoltaic modules on commercial vehicles. The aim is to install them on the roofs to support the energy needed for the engine or chilling cargo. Using solar energy in these vehicles can help to reduce diesel consumption and CO2 emissions.
