Germany: GLS has high hopes for Parcellock, not for same-day deliveries
Die Welt, 08 Feb 2017, online:-
Rico Back, the founder and boss of German parcel delivery firm GLS, has said that he does not believe that ultra-fast deliveries will become standard in Germany. This is because German customers are not willing to pay the price of between EUR 5 (USD 5.39) and EUR 6. He said that GLS is currently offering same-day deliveries in 11 large German cities, but demand remains low. Back said it appears as if for German customers price is not the only factor. Speaking about GLS' new parcel delivery boxes, the executive said that the technology works perfectly and sales are in progress. The Parcellock technology, which GLS developed with Hermes and DPD, makes it possible for delivery staff to place items in the boxes or to remove items that are left in them. Back said that the latter function is very important, considering that when it comes to textiles, half of the parcels sent are returns. Prices for the boxes will start at EUR 400. Back said that the offer for Deutsche Post to take part is still standing.
