Germany: Survey shows 41% would pay more for emissions-free delivery
Press Release, 25 Apr 2017, Hermes Online:-
In a recent survey conducted by German mail order company Otto Group, 41% of people questioned would be happy to pay an average of EUR 2.20 (USD 2.36) more for a delivery if it came in an emissions-free vehicle. As part of its involvement with Otto's framework, the German parcel delivery service provider Hermes has a goal of reducing its CO2 emissions to half their 2006 value by 2020. The company also wants package delivery in all major German cities to be emissions-free by 2025. Hermes's co-operation with Mercedes-Benz is the first step towards achieving that goal. The co-operation involves having 1,500 electric Mercedes-Benz Sprinters and Vitos on the roads by 2020. Whilst Hermes could make good use of the EUR 2.2 extra charge in its campaign, Alexander Bartelt, Head of Corporate Responsibility at Hermes, is sceptical that customers would actually be willing to pay it because there is a big gap between intentions and real-life practice.
