Sweden: Emission reduction with Svenska Retursystem's deposit boxes
Recyclingnet, 13 Feb 2017, online:-
The use of deposit boxes instead of one-time packaging in deliveries to retail trade helped to decrease carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions in retail trade by 28,700 tonnes in 2016. Half of fresh food deliveries to retail trade are conducted with deposit boxes. The boxes come from Swedish return systems company Svenska Retursystem. Emissions in 2016 were much smaller than before 2016, since the boxes are also recycled into new ones. Svenska Retursystem's CEO Anna Elgh notes that the boxes also help to reduce food waste thanks to a stable construction and good ventilation.
